Parent Workshop- Cosmic Education- Montessori for the Elementary-Aged Child
Join us to learn all about what Montessori education is for the Elementary-aged child. This workshop is for current elementary parents, those considering Montessori elementary for their children in the future, or anyone else who wants to learn more about Montessori. We will discuss the shift in development children make when they enter the elementary years and how the Montessori classroom is designed to meet their needs and help them reach their full potential. We will discuss "Cosmic Education," the cornerstone of the elementary curriculum, and what the elementary school day is like. We will also get our hands on the enticing Montessori materials.
This workshop is open to current DMS parents, prospective parents and the greater Dayton community. The workshop is for adults and babies in arms only. Free childcare will be provided (currently enrolled students only). Please RSVP for the workshop by emailing beverley@daytonmontessori.org with the number of adults attending the workshop and the number of students attending childcare.

Connect to Nature Award Ceremony
Dayton Montessori Society has received the Connect to Nature Award from Miami Valley Leave No Child Inside. We are proud of our work over the last ten years and are excited to continue growing and learning in the areas of nature education and appreciation. Naturalists from MVLNCI and Five Rivers Metroparks will be on hand the Thursday to present the award. They will also bring an animal ambassador or two for the students to meet. Please feel free to join us for the proud moment and express our thanks to Five Rivers Metroparks for their encouragement and support.

Last Day of Food Drive for the Food Bank
The PTA and DMS community will be collecting food to donate to the local Food Bank. We will have the barrel for collecting donations in the front hall of the school until February 13. Please see the attached list for suggested items. Thank you for helping us with this important work to give our community and teach our children generosity.
Valentine's Card Exchange
We have a Teacher Work Day on February 14, so children will be exchanging Valentines cards on Thursday, February 13. Students should bring in their Valentine's already signed and ready to hand out. 3-6 students do not need to address their cards to anyone in particular. Elementary students should write the names of their classmates on their cards at home. Cards may include a non-food treat to give, if you like. Participation is not required. Elementary students’ names can be found in the directory or in the newsletter emailed by Ms. Mary.
Watch Me Work Day
Please join your child in their classroom for Watch Me Work Day. Students will choose a few of their favorite/recent works to demonstrate to you. Teachers will be on hand to help and facilitate, but this is a time for you to get to know a bit about your child's expression of themselves as a student and enjoy their enthusiasm for learning (aka not a conference). Plan to spend 30 minutes maximum observing the works your child has planned to show you. You will receive an email regarding this closer to the date and larger classes may have a sign-up for time slots to avoid over-crowding in the classroom.
